Introduction
The Child Protection Unit (CPU) of the Division of Youth Services (DYS) is the agency mandated by law to conduct an initial assessment or investigation of child abuse and neglect reports. Further, it offers services to families and children where abuse has occurred or is likely to occur.

CPU receives reports of suspected child abuse/neglect, identifies and protects children who are abused or face the risk of abuse and/or neglect, and provides or coordinates family services to reduce or alleviate the risk of maltreatment.


Mission
Ultimately, CPU’s mission is to protect and promote the safety, health, and well-being of the children in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and help strengthen and preserve families.


DYS Makes a Commitment to:

• Protect the lives of children who are victims of abuse

• Reduce the trauma of children who have been abused

• Bring services to abused and neglected children and their parents.

• Enhance parental capacity for good child care.

• Maintain the family structure where possible.
