For The Children (FTC) Committee The For the Children Committee, comprised of individuals from all sectors within the community, coordinates efforts with the Division of Youth Services to help promote and increase awareness and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Established in 1998, FTC’s efforts have been hugely successful mainly due to the commitment and dedication shown by its active community members and volunteers. In April annually, FTC/DYS sponsor awareness activities that draw the public’s participation and target the socially and economically disadvantaged, and at risk youth and families. During this year’s campaign, there was extensive media coverage, from weekly advertisements in newspapers and magazines, talk shows on radios and television, to the production of the first anti-child abuse commercial. FTC members and CPU caseworkers appeared on radio and television to promote the awareness activities and impart critical and insightful information on child abuse and neglect. Further, in preventative efforts, caseworkers of the Child Protection Unit conducted a series of child abuse presentations in schools and governmental and private agencies. Hundreds of CAN booklets, CAN literature, stickers, blue ribbons, and t-shirts were distributed to the schools and communities of the CNMI. |
