The Division of Youth Service’s (DYS) mission is to promote the well being of children, youth, families and the community as a whole. The DYS responds to reports of child abuse and neglect, domestic violence when children are involved, runaways, homeless cases, and juvenile delinquency. The Division also oversees juveniles remanded for secured care and control for their own protection and the protection of the community.

The DYS also promotes strong families and healthy childrearing practices through educational and preventive activities and services that give children and families the opportunity to interact, to learn life skills, and to develop the ability to cope with challenges. The DYS also works with other agencies, organizations and the community. In the hopes of reducing child abuse, juvenile delinquency, youth violence, and drug problems.
