Course Information

Cooperative Parenting & Divorce is an 8-week course to assist divorced or divorcing parents in reducing parental conflictt and the risk factors that influence the child's post-divorce adjustment. The program addresses the relationship between separate households created as a result of divorce. It is designed to improve the quality of the parental relationship in situations of joint custody, separate maintenance, change of custody, and paternity.

 

Outline of Sessions

Session 1: Topic- Child Focused or Out of Focus- This session is about learning to be child focused and understanding why conflict hurts. This session is also about how a child reacts tp divporce and committing to the caring contract between both parents. 

Session 2: Topic- Plan for Peace or Tug of War- This session is about allowing the child to love bopth parents. There are many conflicts discussed in this session such as the child feeling forces to choose, when a child is caught in the middle, kkeping you child out of the middle, your child refuses to visit or talk, don't burden your child with your needs, and creating two homes. 

Session 3: Topic-Letting Go or Holding On- This session is about changing your long term goal. There are many roles that are discussed throughout this session, such as individual role, paretning role, familu role, letting go, divorce and grief, forgiveness, attached versus detached, engaged through revenge, engaged through hope, letting-go rituals, and disengagement contract. 

Session 4: Topic-Make it Better or Keep ot Bitter- This session is about choosing your personal path and it concentrates on issues such as realignemnt, obstacles to realignemnt, expectations, language, refusal to religion, control, revenge, postion versus interest, and STP-A Technique. 

Session 5: Topic- Neither Fight Nor Take Flight- This session is about managing your anger.  

Session 6: Topic-Defuse or Light the Fuse- This session is about taking control of conflict by learning about tone of voice, body language, words that light fires, defensiveness, counterattacks. 

Session 7: Topic-All a Winner or Winner Take All- This sessionis about negotiating agreementrs in which they will learn about the seven steps for negotiating agreements. 

Session 8: Topic-Cooperation or Conflict- This session is about learning that co-parenting is forever. This session is about learning about how parenting is forever, time to solve problems, dedication to the futues, vision of the future, and two homes communication memos
